Since the ancient times clary sage has been used as a medicinal herb. More than 900 species are currently known for genus Salvia. Chemical composition and properties are vary widly for different plant species.

Clary sage essential oil is widly used from mosquito repellents [1] to cosmetics. It has a positive effect on the skin when used for skin and hair care, and is also used as a scent fixative in parfumery.

Clary sage oil reduces skin persiration [2]. It has a mild antifungal and antimicrobial properties [3], promotes skin regeneration on small wounds without damaging its microflora. It soothes the skin in case of scratches, acne or blackheads, reduces redness, itching [4].

It helps with bad breath in case of inflammatory processes. Rinsing with clary sage essential oil removes unpleasant odors [5], soothes and protects the gums.

It is recommended for oily hair. Research has shown that clary sage essential oil is more effective against dandruff than some synthetic patented remedies [6].

In aromatherapy, the smell of sage essential oil has antidepressant, anti-stress and relaxing properties, stabilizes mental balance, helps to restore vitality, rejuvenates [7].

Usage:
✓ for skin and hair care – mix 3-5 drops of essential oil with 5 g of base (almond, grape seeds or other carrier oil)
✓ for dental care – add 2-3 drops of essential oil to a glass of water
✓ for massage oil – mix 3-5 drops of essential oil with 10 g of base
✓ for bath – mix 7-10 drops of essential oil with 1 tablespoon of milk, honey or sea salt, add to warm water and allow dissolve. Soak in the tub for 10-15 min.

Contraindications: Do not use in case of individual intolerance. It should be diluted before applying to your skin. It can cause allergic skin reactions so be sure to do a patch test before applying it topically.
