Laurel leaf oil should be used very carefully for skin care and only in a small amount and be sure to check before use whether it causes an allergic reaction. Almost half of all ingredients are cineole, which has a high risk of skin irritation. Therefore, it is not recommended to exceed a concentration of 0.1% in cosmetic products.
Although the antibacterial properties of the oil can be compared to lavender and tea tree oil, laurel leaf oil is almost not used as an antiseptic in cosmetics because it is better to use lavender or tea tree oils, which have a milder effect on the skin [1]. But it is widely used as a natural preservative to extend the shelf life of some foods (fish and meat products).
It is a great addition to hair care products. Helps to get rid of dandruff in oily and normal scalp [2]. Used in nourishing products to promote hair growth.
Due to its excellent perfumery properties, laurel leaf oil is mostly used in perfumery and soap fragrance.
Laurel leaf oil can be used for oily skin with comedones as it helps to get rid of blackheads [3].
Applying laurel leaf oil to the skin produces a warming effect and reduces skin sensitivity [4]. Therefore, a relaxing massage with this oil is extremely effective for tired and tense muscles.
Laurel leaf oil has insecticidal properties against mealybugs that spoil flour and grain. It is effective even after the appearance of beetles and helps to get rid of them [5]. With the growing interest in organic farming, new natural agents for plant protection have recently been sought. Studies have found that laurel leaf oil (at a concentration of 0.5 g/L aqueous emulsion) can be successfully used to protect plants against fungal infections and molds [6, 7].
