Method of extraction: the essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the berries of the aromatic litsea (May Chang) Litsea cubeba.

Litsea cubeba essential oil has a very pleasant fresh citrus scent that is loved by many people and is sure to lift up the mood. Ideal oil for aromatizing rooms and very popular especially for vaporization in diffusers. It is valued by perfumers for the creation of high-quality perfumes, as it gives compositions a fresh green shade and highlights other scents.

Litsea cubeba essential oil is rich in citral, the antimicrobial properties of the oil are based on its effect. It is effective in getting rid of bad breath and protecting teeth [1]. A few drops of oil can be added to the rinsing liquid.

The amount of litsea cubeba essential oil in cosmetic products should not exceed 0.3%, as there is evidence that it can increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight. It is better not to use products with a higher content of this oil before going out into the sun [2]. Creams and masks with laurel essential oil lighten the skin and pigment spots. For pigment spots, the oil can only be used on problem areas in mixtures with carrier oils (e.g. castor, rosehip). Masks with clay and litsea cubeba oil are useful for mature skin to reduce the visibility of wrinkles.

Litsea cubeba oil is used as an active ingredient in anti-acne [3], oily skin with redness and comedones [4].

Litsea cubeba oil is a natural insecticide and helper in the garden, which works against many types of insects that suck plant juice and damage cultivated varieties. Various studies have found an effective concentration of 15 to 30 drops per 1 liter of water [5]. And when sprayed on the fruit, it helps to stop the growth of mold [6].

Usage:
✓ for skin and hair care – mix 3-6 drops of essential oil with 10-15 g of base (e.g. carrier oil – almond, grape seed, etc.)
✓ for face masks – mix 3 tea. teaspoons of clay, 3 tea. teaspoons of water and 2-3 drops of oil until you get a thick paste. Apply to the skin and leave for 10-15 minutes. Do not allow to dry completely. Then rinse with warm water.
✓ baths – mix 5-8 drops of essential oil with 1 tablespoon of milk, honey, sea or salt, add to a full bath of water. The duration of the procedure is 10-15 minutes.
✓ it is possible to vaporize essential oils in a diffuser or aromatic lamps.

Contraindications: do not use in case of individual intolerance. Do not use pure oil (max 0.3%) for skin care, do not apply to the skin before going out in the sun. Before using essential oils, it is necessary to check whether the inhaled or applied oil will not cause an individual allergic reaction!
